What’s Guiding You?

One of the most humbling things about growing up is realizing how much we don’t know, and how much we assumed we’d be taught or figure out along the way.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on this idea:

To truly become who you’re meant to be, you have to understand what’s guiding you at the core.

Your principle. Your internal compass.

Whether you’re trying to change the world, build a business, be an amazing doctor, start a creative home, or lead in any space, there’s usually a deeper “why” behind it all. That “why” often ties back to the principle that drives your life.

It could be rooted in faith, growth, influence, service, or change.

But here’s the thing: not everyone has defined it yet, and that’s okay.

The journey to uncover it is just as important.

Understanding your principle means looking deeper:

    • What drives you?

    • What kind of environment helps you show up at your best?

    • Who are the people that feed your vision?

    • What strategies or disciplines ground you?

    • Which parts of your character elevate you or trip you up?

All of these questions lead you to your epicenter—that principle that shapes your goals, your yeses and nos, your decisions, and your purpose.

Sometimes, we do too much in an attempt to “find ourselves,” taking on every opportunity and saying yes to everything. But quantity isn’t always clarity. Often, it leads to burnout, and from that stillness, we begin to desire focus. That’s where purpose starts to take shape. That’s when we begin to move with clarity and deliver with quality.

So whether you’re still trying to find “your compass” or have started to find your lane, give yourself a moment each day to sit and ask:

What principle is guiding me right now, today, this week, or this year?

From there, begin to draw the map. It won’t come overnight (obviously), but trust me, it’s worth every day you spend figuring it out.

Cheering you on! It’s not easy, but oh my, it’s so worth it.
